Who's Our Presidential Candidate?
The truths we can't ignore
Probably just like me many of the other gen zs are rooting for Maraga, Sifuna and Omtatah as suitable presidential flag bearers. We believe so because they have a proven track record of standing for truth and speaking it to power.
THE RIGGY G FACTOR
When this name is mentioned, a mixture of anger seasoned with thrill is felt by some people. Anger because it's purpoted he is a tribalist thrill because his comic coined slogans that hit the media and crack people up in laughter. Riggy G became a subject of discussion after he was impeached, many sympathized with him, many didn't in the basis he was a tribalist, one among the accusations that was tabled to oust him. Some quickly believed he was a tribalist, first from the state's statements and second from Rigathi's own utterances like the renowned ‘usiguze murima’. As a political analyst something many Kenyans are not I thought twice on this matter. First I tried to decipher what was the real reason for his fallout with Ruto because it was certainly not tribalism, it might have been a factor but not the whole thing. Secondly why did the state label him a tribalist soo quickly and sold it to the masses.
The reason why Riggy G's tribal title spread fast was the fact that he was vocal about the murima people openly. He was unapologetic about it, to him it didn't matter what people would call him for the sake of the mountain people. What Gachagua was displaying on his public utterances of the murima people, was a struggle of power based on pacts. That was what he knew, he knew government thrive in ‘what do you bring to the table’ and that included communities, that's where the tribal lines would find themselves in the scenes of politics. Riggy G was also vocal on the issues of shares which didn't seat well people, many said he's demanding only things, a higher percentage for his communities, he is the worst tribalist. The reason I said about political analysim as very important in dissecting the psychology behind politics is because politicians hide behind masks and only the citizens don't know. Politicians know each other and to them it's a game of power, despite the predicaments of the citizen. You've heard Kindiki say, his political mentor is Ruto, yes politics is soo serious that it has mentors. The problem with Kenyans is that we listen to politicians too much and don't reason on our own. Do you think there's any politician in their right mind will stand to ever take responsibility, no! they all blame each other and citizens end up taking sides based on tribal lines, sympathy or even religion.
You heard Oburu talking of shares the other day and claiming they want power. What Oburu proved is that government thrives on coalitions and what you bring which dictates what you will receive. Even Peter the disciple of Jesus asked him, “now that we have followed you, what's in for us?”. But when Rigathi raised the same concerns he was labeled a tribalist. On the long run you realize what politicians blame each other for, is what they live to practice. So, it would be soo foolish of us to believe what politicians say about others and themselves. They remain to be thieves and manipulators, only a little section of them having the interest of people at heart, which brings me back to Maraga, Sifuna and Omtatah.
The rough kicks of politics
We as gen zs might not be tribal compared to what our parents, the millenials. Their times it was always based on ethnicity regardless of how it's never talked about. We might not be like them, but we come from the same roots, meaning we have some properties of tribalism a little percentage that has been evident when we were given a chance to exercise voting. This chance was well achieved in universities where people used to vote based on their ethnic grounds, I mean majorly students stood with someone from their tribe and merged depending on the relationships with tribes. Sometimes you'd hear people of central Kenya merging with those of northern Kenya and people of the rift Valley merging with those of the Luo nyanza and that's how university politics thrived. My point is that, Kenya has always heard tribal traces no matter how we try to pretend. And believing a politician for calling another politician a tribalist can be the most craze thing of you as if the person calling the other one is not tribal himself /,herself. As gen z we want to vote the rogue government out badly but are we sure of the replacements we have? We should be very careful not to make this whole ordeal a mirage, this is the future of the people of Kenya we are talking about. We can't afford to loose, but the way I'm seeing it, I don’t know what our plan is. Yes, we say Maraga should pair with Sifuna for president and deputy respectively but we need to be serious for once. Since when did we think we can vote our president in, alone as gen zs? What we forget is that we found politics here, and it's played, sometimes the votes don't win you, rigging does, sometimes rigging does not win you mass voting does. This is a game and sometimes it's played rough. As gen zs we need enough help, total equipping for this coming election. #tukokadi movement is a great initiative, but we can turn out as gen zs and vote but it gets rigged, so, the issue is not majorly about voting but who wins.
The Alliance We Need
We need the millenials, we need the tycoons, we need the academia giants, we need lawyers, we need the political analysts. We need every force on our side. This is a battle field and every extra support gives us the upper hand. We have Maraga, Sifuna and Omtatah, good for us, at least we have something but #Tukokadi alone is not winning as the presidency and other seats, we need to stop dwelling on hype alone and imply strategy also. There is a united opposition that is functional, the likes of Kalonzo, Martha Karua, Eugine , Jb Muturi, Matiangi etc. These one's realized they can't unsit Ruto each by themselves, they opted to unite. They understand coalitions win an election not just turning up to vote, both combined with every other factor like presence of financiers and law advocates among other things win are what win you an election. As we shy from joining forces with the opposition front, others like the Wanga led ODM is soon joining UDA. Yes, I agree that people in the opposition are not our favourites, some served in the previous government and it's alleged they did disastrous things, but what gives this hope of a better nation is that in this opposition there's a mixture of different people with different track records, some have fought with the people, stood for truth. The country we want is not one governed by a monopoly power, since thus risks the country acting as someone's property. The situation we are in now as a country. We want different people which will bring forth different ideologies that shall neutralize the countries progress. This is what we need, alliance, not hype alone. We don't have to like those in the opposition, but we have to work with whoever to reclaim this country. Even these politicians despite their enmity , when it calls for their interests they unite, who are we not to?
